描述

This landscape, which was not painted from life, invites the viewer on a journey into the murky waters of memory. For this composition, Peter Doig mixed heterogeneous visual references: a record sleeve by the rock group The Allman Brothers Band, a photograph of a hospital off the coast of Trinidad, where he spent his childhood, and a pictorial style close to that of the Norwegian painter Edvard Munch. The atmosphere of the work is melancholic, as the shadowy figure of the American bassist Berry Oakley, sitting alone in a huge canoe, seems to question the relationship between man and nature.
